Two Shot During Domestic Dispute by Hernando County Sheriff's Deputy

BROOKSVILLE – Two people have been shot during a domestic dispute by at least one Hernando County Sheriff's Deputy.

According to sources, 911 received a call from a woman located at 10070 Cobb Road, claiming she was in a physical altercation with a male subject.

When the deputy arrived on scene, he is heard screaming "He's got a gun." Moments later, the deputy says, "Shots fired, shots fired."

Officials say one of the individuals fired at the deputies, and at least one deputy discharged his weapon, striking both individuals.

Two medical helicopters responded to the scene and transported both victims to Bayonet Point Hospital for treatment.

One of the victims is a female in her early 50s and a male in his mid 50s. Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and extremities. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis is one of the few Florida Sheriffs who opposes the use of body cameras with his deputies. Subsequently, there will be no body cam footage of the incident.

Cobb Road is shut down between Yontz Road and north of Ft. Dade Ave. at this time.

We will bring more on this story as it develops.
