Motorcycle Thieves Found Hiding Behind Church After U-Haul Pursuit

BROOKSVILLE – A pair of alleged motorcycle thieves thought hiding behind a church would help them evade arrest, but not today, thanks to a vigilant neighbor, determined victim, and quick response of Sheriff's Deputies.

According to sources, the victim met with a one of the suspects in the area of Centralia Road in Weeki Wachee, expecting to sell his motorcycle, but when the suspect took the bike for a test drive, he never returned. The victim immediately began searching and eventually located the suspect loading the motorcycle into a U-Haul that was parked nearby.

The victim called 911 and began following the U-Haul as the driver fled the area. The pursuit continued east on Centralia Road, but the victim lost sight of the suspects in the area of Fort Dade Ave and Cobb Road.

In an attempt to avoid capture, the suspect drove the U-Haul behind 9021 Kearsarge Ln., which is a local church.

Thanks to a neighbor who witnessed the U-Haul pull behind the church, Deputies were able locate the suspects and take them into custody without incident.

The victim responded to the scene and positively identified the suspects.

There are no details into the exact charges at this time.
