Remembering Captain Scott Bierwiler

A Statement from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Regarding the Death of Captain Scott Bierwiler

In the early morning hours of February 19th, 2009, Captain Scott Bierwiler was killed in the line of duty, as the result of a head-on collision. Scott, who was only 42 years old at the time of his death, was a 23-year veteran of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office and the recipient of the Medal of Valor who had quickly climbed the ranks due to his faithfulness of service and his commitment to justice.

Captain Bierwiler was not only a dedicated law enforcement officer and decorated asset to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, he was also a cherished husband, a doting father of three, a beloved son and brother, and a loyal friend.

As each of us reflect on the treasured memories we carry of our brother today, we will also be mourning the loss his beautiful family still endures.

In 2020, Capitan Bierwiler's son, Deputy Scott Bierwiler, followed in his father's footsteps by joining the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. Capitan, your legacy lives on.
