Restaurant Fire Under Investigation by State Fire Marshal

UPDATE: January 10, 2023 - According to a spokesperson for Hernando County Fire Rescue, investigators have determined that the fire is not suspicious at this time and that faulty electrical wiring in an adjacent shipping container is what led to the fire. Officials say the main structure did sustain damage as a result of the fire.

HERNANDO BEACH – An investigation is underway into a commercial fire that damaged the Drunken Mullet Restaurant (VIDEO) in Hernando Beach on Saturday night.

Officials say the fire began around 8:40 p.m. in an office on the south side of the building.

All occupants were able to evacuate and there are no reports of injuries.

A spokesperson for Hernando County Fire Rescue says the State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire and there may be additional information later this week. Allegations that a disgruntled employee may have started the fire are unfounded at this time.

According to a post on the Drunken Mullet Facebook page, the fire was caused by faulty wiring in the new office building.
