SPRING HILL – A DUI suspect is behind bars after attempting to flee from an early morning traffic stop on Wednesday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Trooper Rozzell observed the driver of a red 2007 Dodge Caliber swerving and driving all over the road westbound on County Line Road near Cobblestone Drive. Rozzell attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed until turning south onto East Road.

As the pursuit continued, Trooper Rozzell attempted an unsuccessful PIT maneuver which resulted in disabling his patrol car.

A second PIT maneuver was attempted by Trooper Galloway which was successful and led to the suspect's vehicle crashing into a tree line.

The suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Jose Manuel Feliz, attempted to flee on foot but Troopers were able to tase Feliz and take him into custody after a brief struggle.

Due to a language barrier, a Trooper was heard telling Feliz in Spanish that his actions were, "Muy stupido, Muy stupido," or very stupid.

Feliz was booked into the Hernando County Jail on charges of Fleeing to Elude, Reckless Driving, Driving on a Suspended or Revoked License, Resisting Arrest with Violence, Aggravated Assault on LEO, and Aggravated Battery on LEO. Feliz remains behind bars on a $33,000 bond.
