3 Charged with 1st Degree Murder in Death of Spring Hill Woman, "High-Risk" Lifestyle to Blame, Says Sheriff

BROOKSVILLE – The Hernando County Sheriff's Office has announced the arrests of three suspects involved in Wednesday's home invasion homicide on Marquette Street in Spring Hill.

According to Sheriff Al Nienhuis, Hacier Martinez, 22, Dawson Destin 20, and Landon Runyon, 19 are all charged with 1st Degree Murder in connection with the death of the victim, a 25-year-old woman.

Nienhuis says Martinez and the other suspects were visiting the victim's home as part of a scheduled sexual encounter. While the victim and Martinez were engaged in a sexual act, Martinez attempted to rob her. An altercation ensued and the victim's sister and another male attempted to force entry into the bedroom. At the same time, Runyon and Destin rushed into the home. During the altercation, the victim retrieved a firearm and an exchange of gunfire ensued between the suspects and victim. All three suspects then fled the scene in a white SUV, according to Nienhuis.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 4:45 a.m. to find the victim deceased in the bedroom and her sister had suffered significant injuries to her lower extremities.

During the investigation, detectives discovered a gun under the victim's body and determined that the suspects had most likely been shot.

A multi-agency effort between Hernando, Pasco, and Kentucky State Law Enforcement agencies located all three suspects within 48 hours of the homicide and took them into custody.

Nienhuis says when detectives located Runyon, he had suffered a serious gunshot wound to the face and was "almost unrecognizable." Destin also suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach but managed to drive all the way to Kentucky, where he was later taken into custody and hospitalized. Martinez was found walking near his residence and was uninjured.

Nienhuis told reporters that the victim was involved in prostitution and lived a "high-risk" lifestyle. He says it's probable that because the victim posted pictures of her holding a large amount of cash, it drew the attention of the three suspects to commit the home invasion.

Sadly, three children under the age of 10 resided in the home and witnessed the horrific event.

Due to Marsey's Law, the victim's identities will not be released by officials.
