Man Fears for Son's Safety After Ex Makes Disturbing Comments, Says Law Enforcement Refuses to Investigate - AUDIO

SPRING HILL – A woman’s threat to harm herself and her children has left a father feeling helpless, after he says authorities refuse to take the matter seriously and protect his son.

Adam Gonzales has been in an on and off relationship with Amber Ortiz for several years. Ortiz is the mother of Gonzales’s 17-month-old son and a 3-year-old daughter by a former boyfriend. Gonzales says Ortiz is an “out-of-control” alcoholic, which is what he says led to the most recent separation, late last month.

On May 25th, Gonzales says he was making dinner for the family when Ortiz texted him and said, “I’m drunk, deal with it, I’ll be home soon.” Gonzales says she later “butt dialed” him and heard her making sexual remarks about male subject that made Gonzales believe Ortiz was cheating on him “again.” After she returned and was confronted about the alleged infidelity, Ortiz locked Gonzales out of their home.

Gonzales says he’s only been able to see his son one time since the breakup, and that was because Ortiz had no one else to watch the children while she worked. That’s when Gonzales says Ortiz threatened to kill herself and the children if he didn’t do what she asked. R News obtained a very disturbing audio recording of what is alleged to be Ortiz stating, “Both your T.V.s are smashed, I don’t want these babies, I don’t want anything from you anymore. Honestly, like I’m moving away, like I don’t care anymore. So come get this kid or I promise you I’m going to k*ll myself and these f*cking kids. I don’t give a f*ck, honestly. I’m about to punch this mirror, honestly, I swear to God. I’ve never been so f*cking serious in my f*cking life.” CLICK HERE FOR AUDIO

Gonzales says he didn’t know what to do and was in fear of what she might do to the children if he reported the threats. He says Ortiz has been physically and emotionally abusive towards him, but fears that if he reports her abuse to authorities, he’ll be the one to go to jail. “That’s just how it is for men,” says Gonzales.

In a second audio recording Ortiz is heard saying, “I don’t want you to be my f*cking son’s father… I’m going to make your life miserable. You will never see (son’s name) a day in your f*cking life until someone knocks down my f*cking door and takes me to court.”

Gonzales contacted the Sheriff’s Office earlier this week, after Ortiz continued to harass and threaten him and his family over the children. Gonzales says deputies refused to investigate the threats, so he asked a deputy, “What if something happens to those kids.” Gonzales says the deputy responded, “What if? We could play the what if game all day.”

Gonzales says after reporting the threats to law enforcement, Ortiz petitioned the courts and was granted a temporary order of protection from domestic violence. Gonzales says the injunction is nothing more than retaliation for reporting the threats and says, “I’m the real victim of abuse and now I have to defend myself against false allegations, instead of trying to protect the children.”

Gonzales admits he has not had a good rapport with law enforcement and that he has been arrested several times for possession of marijuana, but he says, “I’m not a bad father and I want to be a part of my son’s life.”

Gonzales says the Department of Children and Families has been notified and they have visited Ortiz’s home at least once, but so far, no action has been taken by authorities.

R News has been unable to reach Ortiz for comment.

Hernando County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Denise Moloney replied, "Please call our office if you have information in regard to someone who is threatening to hurt themselves or others."
