Tampa Murder Suspect Spotted in Spring Hill, Considered Armed and Dangerous

SPRING HILL – The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect in Friday's fatal shooting on Nebraska Ave that left one person dead.

According to officials, 25-year-old Joel Elkanah Jr. of Spring Hill is wanted for 1st Degree Murder with a Firearm in connection with Friday's shooting.

Early Saturday morning, Hernando County Sheriff's Deputies learned that Elkanah was dropped off at an address on Elwood Road, but they were unable to locate him in the area. Deputies then learned that Elkanah was spotted at 7377 Tradewinds Lane, his last known registered address, but they were told he had already left the residence.

During a thorough search of Elwood Road, deputies located a firearm and ammunition that possible belonged to Elkanah.

There has been no comment or notification from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, but Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister stated, "As our investigation continues, I urge anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward immediately," Chronister continues, "While we believe this to be an isolated incident at this time, Elkanah Jr. is considered armed and dangerous, and we are dedicated to ensuring he is arrested for his crime."
