Officials Investigating Threats Made Against a Hernando County School

HERNANDO – The Hernando County School District issued a text message to parents this morning, warning them about a threat made against a school. The message reads. "HCSO is currently investigating a social media threat against a school. While no school is named in the post, all school leaders and SROs are aware of the post & school staff will increase vigilance in maintaining all campus security protocols."

Despite the District stating that "no school is named," Fox Chapel Middle School's new Principal Tom Dye stated in a message to parents last night, "We are investigating a report a student overheard making a threat to sho*t up our school in an abundance of caution. Additional law enforcement will be on campus tomorrow while school administration and law enforcement conduct a thorough investigation into the credibility of the threat. The student will not be allowed on campus. Student privacy rules prevent divulging further details related to this allegation."

It is not known at this time if these are separate investigations or one in the same.

This comes on the heels of recent controversy regarding a teacher who made threats against Fox Chapel students and is currently reassigned to a position away from students. More information on that story is forthcoming.

R News will bring more on this story if new information develops.
