17 Injured in Early Morning Crash Involving Inmate Transport Van

BROOKSVILLE – At least 17 people were injured in a crash involving an inmate transport van on I-75, earlier this morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 26-year-old male driver was traveling northbound in a Hyundai Sonata, while a Pasco Sheriff's Office transport van was traveling ahead of his vehicle. Near mile marker 296, the driver of the Sonata failed to slow down and collided with the rear of the transport van.

Officials say both drivers, 2 security officers, 10 inmates, 2 adults and 2 children suffered minor injuries in the crash.

There are no details at this time as to what may have caused the crash.
