PORT RICHEY, FL – Matthew Coppler, the City Manager for Port Richey, Florida, announced last Tuesday that a new interim Chief of Police will lead the department after the sudden resignation of Cyrus Robinson.
According to an email sent to all department personnel on November 19th, Coppler stated that Captain Michael Koch will lead the department until a permanent chief is hired to fill the position.
There have been no public announcements from City Officials, but sources tell R News that Robinson may have resigned due to an alleged failure to report approximately $500,000 in red light camera revenue. According to that same source, due to the oversight, every citation has been dismissed, and the city cannot recover that revenue.
Robinson, the former Hernando County Sheriff's Office Major, accepted the position in 2020.
Earlier this year, R News reported that 11 out of 18 Port Richey Police Officers passed a vote of no confidence in Robinson through their chapter of the Police Benevolent Society (PBA). Among other reasons, they say Robinson allowed a female officer to keep her job after she was arrested for domestic battery against her ex-wife.
R News will bring more on this story as it develops.
