BROOKSVILLE – Each year, the Hernando Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) holds budget hearings to review each department's proposed increases and that often leads to a fiery debate between the most conservative County Commissioner and an extremely liberal County Sheriff.
Last week's budget hearing proved no different than prior years when Commissioner Steve Champion asked Sheriff Al Nienhuis why he's asking for another double-digit increase and refuses to make cuts. Sheriff Nienhuis and his ally Commissioner Jerry Campbell lashed out at Champion in an apparent effort to shift attention away from the budget by claiming Champion has a personal grudge.

The Sheriff will do anything he can to get his way. He and his friends are already destroying Hernando County. Watch your back Steve.!!! We the people of Hernando County need to fight back against any more building here. Look what's going on in other county's. Flooding where it's never flooded before. WHY, The water has no place to go. Crime is out of control throughout the county. Is his Chinese built spy cameras doing anything to deter crime?? Is the public entitled to get any reports exactly what these cameras do?? What good id a dash cam if they park the car 200 ft from the crime? I am embarrassed for all the people in Hernando County who were to Lazy to get out and vote this!%#)%^(@ out of office.
