BROOKSVILLE – The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is reporting the arrest of a teenager who they say was in possession of child pornography and sexually abused an 8-year-old family member.
Officials say on June 16th, detectives received information 17-year-old Noah Smith had downloaded child pornography from the internet.
A search warrant was served on the social media provider which revealed that Smith was in possession of 10 files containing child sexual abuse material.
On July 5th, detectives executed a search warrant at Smith's residence located on Macy Road in Brooksville. During an interview, Smith admitted he had sexually abused a younger family member and admitted to uploading child pornography to his electronic devices.
Upon further questioning, Smith confessed to sexually abusing an 8-year-old family member, who resides in Georgia, over the course of approximately 4 years.
Georgia authorities have been notified and an investigation has been launched into the allegations. Charges are forthcoming in Georgia for the sex crimes committed in their jurisdiction, say officials.
Smith was arrested and charged with 10 counts of Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography and Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device.
Smith is currently held at the Department of Juvenile Justice.
