SPRING HILL - Two people survived a small plane crash this afternoon when the aircraft they were flying suddenly lost power.
According to sources, an instructor and student were flying a small single-engine aircraft along the coast when they lost power to the engine and attempted to land on Pine Island Drive.
The plane struck a tree when it touched down, causing catastrophic damage to the aircraft.
Both the instructor and student pilot were uninjured in the crash.
American Aviation flight instructor and current candidate for Hernando County Sheriff Joe Puglia says, "This Is a testament to our training. The pilot new exactly what to do and thankfully they walked away unharmed."
The FAA will conduct an investigation before removing the aircraft.
